INNOVATOR 

Initiated study on psychological implications of voice problems. Researched and compiled current literature on subject. Determined necessity of diversification of therapy in adults and children. Implemented therapy in accordance with results of study.

Originated state-funded "School Health Program" in Stamford, Connecticut to extend speech pathology services to parochial and private schools. Arranged in-services for parents and teachers to facilitate carry-over therapy at home and in the classroom.

Counseled and advised parents on speech and language deficits and therapy at the Aid for Retarded Children (ARC) pre-school. Assisted in obtaining funding and placement for retarded children.

Developed program for severely emotionally disturbed adults housed in a county locked facility, many of whom had been at a state mental institution for most of their lives with no available speech, language or hearing services. Coordinated program with physicians and other health professionals.

Planned and presented lectures on speech, language and hearing problems to the physicians at Peralta and Merritt Hospitals in Oakland, California, and dentists at the Middlesex County Dental Association as part of their Continuing Education program. Attendees included physicians from the entire East Bay area and dentists from throughout Middlesex County.

Presented the CALSPAPP (California Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in Private Practice) Review Course in preparation for the Examination for Licensing and Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology in conjunction with holding the post of Vice-President of CALSPAPP. On the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Private Practice in Speech Pathology and Audiology (AAPPSPA).

Elected 1st female President of TABA (Telegraph Ave. Business Association) and served on committees for the Oakland and Middlesex County Chambers of Commerce. Assistant race director for the Oakland Brass Pole Run, sponsored by the Oakland Firefighters, with proceeds going to the Alameda County Special Olympics and the Northern California Burn Council. Coordinator of the Foster Parents Plan Support Group in Oakland. Small Business of the Year awarded in May of 1992 by the Oakland Chamber of Commerce. Vice President of the Apartment House Association of Alameda County. Awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. One of the first female members of the Middletown Rotary service club, and served on the Board of Directors. Responsible for donations being solicited from major corporations for the benefit of the Haitian Health Foundation, and purchased and delivered holiday food baskets for elderly handicapped individuals in Middletown.

COORDINATOR  

Coordinated the Congressional Action Contact network in the State of California in order to assist in getting federal legislation passed regarding handicapped individuals.

Designed speech and language programs for up to 90 individuals in public school settings. Diagnosed deficits, implemented remediation, counseled parents, and collaborated with other professionals on therapy goals. Worked with abused children with speech, language and hearing problems at the Children's Home of Cromwell as well as coordination rehabilitation professionals at a summer camp for severely involved children and adolescents.

Developed and conducted speech therapy programs for up to 30 individuals with severe speech and language deficits in a special federally funded project. Obtained severe cases from existent speech program, and designed intensive therapy program to facilitate results.

Informed general community, physicians, educators, and parents on speech and language problems through multi-media program. Motivated numerous referrals to local agencies with speech, language or hearing assistance through this program in Oakland, California.

Designed and developed private speech and language practice, "Speech and Language Institute" in Oakland, California and currently in Middletown, Connecticut. Obtained cases from referrals by physicians, hospitals, schools, and agencies. Diagnosed and implemented therapy programs for clients. Counseled for carry-over of therapy goals.

Collaborated on pilot project, "School Health and Nutrition Services Project" in the Oakland Public Schools. Advised project team on speech and language needs in overall health assessment of individuals. Wrote media material on project for radio and television presentation. Appeared on television and radio programs to inform public about the project and availability of speech and language assistance through local agencies.

Taught Dominican College of San Rafael courses entitled "What You Always Wanted To Know About Speech Problems But Were Afraid To Ask" (subtitled "what to do before the speech therapist arrives"). Designed course material, and motivated attendees through lectures and interactive multi-media presentations.

Presented lecture at the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association (ASHA) Annual Convention regarding coordinating services and alternative funding for therapy.

Coordinated Speech Pathology Services with other medical specialties for patients of various Home Health Agencies as well as PPO's and HMO's in the greater East Bay area.

Served on Utilization Review committee for  local Home Health Agencies in addition to being on agency Advisory Committees.
